Having a consistent yoga practice can help us focus on our internal state of mind. Yoga allows us to draw our attention to the body’s imbalances that cause us to gain weight . Yoga breathing and yoga exercises can reduce anxious eating, and give us a mood lift or release nervousness that puts us into an emotional eating binge. Many yoga postures will increase strength and flexibility. Yoga itself can not burn enough calories for major weight loss, you should combine yoga with other forms of enjoyable exercise like walking or biking. The is part of a 30 minute DVD for sale on my website – Namaste~

okay. i’m not looking to lose weight or anything i just want some good yoga videos! hahaha.

Why not try one of the free online yoga sites Sara, there’s plenty out there, this way you can get a feel for several different styles and pick the one that resonates with you. For a dancer I’d suggest Power or Bikram yoga.:-)

I just joined at the ymca in my neighborhood and they have yoga classes and I’m not sure if I should try it or not, please help me.

Yoga is as hard or as easy as you make it. This is the beauty of yoga. It is always perfect to where you are in your spiritual progress.

If you are new then by all means try your best but don’t get discouraged if you cannot do all the poses perfectly. You can always visualize the posture while you are doing it. This will benefit you more as your mind cannot discern real from imagination.

Also, 15 minutes of yoga every day is better than 2 hours once a week. This is because you are forming a new and healthy habit.

The optimum is said to be 2,5 hours in the morning between 4am to 7am. This is said to be the Amrit Veyla and yoga done in this time will benefit your entire day 10 fold.

Lucas Rockwood teaches yoga flexibility and nutritional training for yoga students. Free e-course at the URL above.

The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali are in themselves exceedingly brief, less than ten pages of large type in the original. Yet they contain the essence of practical wisdom, set forth in admirable order and detail. The theme, if the present interpreter be right, is the great regeneration, the birth of the spiritual from the psychical man: the same theme
which Paul so wisely and eloquently set forth in writing to his disciples in Corinth, the theme of all mystics in all lands.

The teaching of the East is, that all these are true powers overlaid by false desires; that though in manifestation psychical, they are in essence spiritual; that the psychical man is the veil and prophecy of the spiritual man.

The purpose of life, therefore, is the realizing of that prophecy; the unveiling of the immortal man; the birth of the spiritual from the psychical, whereby we enter our divine inheritance and come to inhabit Eternity. This is, indeed, salvation, the purpose of all true
religion, in all times.

Patanjali has in mind the spiritual man, to be born from the psychical. His purpose is, to set in order the practical means for the unveiling and regeneration, and to indicate the fruit, the glory and the power, of that new birth.

Im very interested in practicing Yoga, for all the benefits of course. I know it takes hard work and time for the benefits to come but im stuck on choosing a yoga style for me.

Im a beginner i have Asthma which is one of the main reason i want to practice Yoga to try and strenghten my lungs and improve lung capacity. I dont have much money as im a student so id like to be able to learn a yoga style at home. Something easy and relaxing but not too easy. So what style should i choose? Also could u include a bit of info on each of the styles, like an overview of each style and possibly recommend a style best for me as a beginner? thank you very much.

Alcoholism is defined as an irresistible urge to consume alcohol. People suffering from alcoholism are very well aware of the dangerous effects alcohol could have on their bodies, but still they are unable to resist the urge to consume it. They will usually drink beyond acceptable limits and will be in an inebriated state most often, causing embarrassment and inconvenience to the people with them.

Most people who consume alcohol have more than they can manage. This is seen in alcohol drinkers who lose control of their senses when they have one drink too many. Such an overstepping of limits is called as alcohol abuse. People who abuse alcohol are having more alcohol than their body allows them, but they have not yet come totally under the control of their alcohol habit. However, if they continue drinking for long, then they will not be able to resist alcohol and will become totally addicted to it. This situation is called as alcoholism.

Constant alcoholism will interfere with the functioning of all the vital organs of the body. The major organs affected are the liver, brain, heart and kidneys.

Liver is perhaps the most seriously affected in the long run. With prolonged alcoholism, the liver may develop cirrhosis, which is scarring of the liver tissue. Once cirrhosis sets in, it is very difficult to return the health back to normal.

In the stomach, alcohol can cause several gastric problems which may interfere with digestion. At the same time, each time a person has alcohol, it numbs his/her nervous system. In due course, the person may lose some or all of the fundamental senses.

(1)	Useful Herbs in the Treatment of Alcoholism

1.	Aloe vera (Aloe vera)

Aloe vera helps to strengthen the liver which is the first organ to be affected by the habit of alcoholism. Aloe vera can improve the functions and strength of the liver, and can prevent cirrhosis which is developed due to continuous intake of alcohol.

2.	Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera)

Ashwagandha is an herb that is taken to reduce vata vitiations. This is important since vata plays and important role in strengthening the brain and nervous coordination. Use of ashwagandha can make the alcoholic person stronger.

3.	Gotu Kola (Centella asiatica)

The gotu kola herb revitalizes the brain. This is essential in people who want to overcome the withdrawal symptoms accompanied with alcohol.

4.	Musk (Nardostachys jatamansi)

Known commonly in Ayurveda as Jatamansi, musk is a nervine for the vata vitiation. Its cooling effect helps the body to fight against then effects of alcoholism.

(2)	Ayurvedic Treatment for Alcoholism

Ayurvedic treatments for mada work on various levels. There are different kinds of treatments for people with different degrees of alcoholism. Common therapies employed are cold irrigations on the head, providing a cold diet and applying cold mud packs on the body.

However these therapies work only for people who are not habitual alcoholics. These are the people who are beginners to drinking and hence get intoxicated easily. Ayurvedic medicines like Brihat vata chintamani rasa, Vata Vidhwansa rasa, Brahmi ghritam and Sarvatha choorna can be given to the alcoholics.

But if the person is a habitual alcoholic, then severe treatments are necessary. The medication is done based on the doshic constitution of the person.

1.	For people with a vata constitution, the prescribed Ayurvedic treatments are Suvarachala choorna, Shuktapana and Amla Snigdhaadi yoga.

2.	For people with a pitta constitution, the prescribed Ayurvedic treatments are Vata Srugadi pana and Kshundramalaki hima.

3.	For people with a kapha constitution, the prescribed Ayurvedic treatments are to induce vomiting, fasting and to provide digestive medicines.

(3)	Home Medications

Fruit juices are very effective in lowering the effects of alcoholism. For removing the effects of a hangover, the juice of a lemon or orange will be very effective. Eating an apple or banana helps to flush out the toxins from the body which collect due to alcoholism.

Both grapes and dates are very beneficial in reducing the urge to consume alcohol. If alcoholics are kept on a diet of only grapes for a couple of weeks, then most likely the temptation to drink will be totally gone.

Introduce many other drinks in the person’s diets so that the craving for the alcoholic drink is reduced.

When the person feels the urge to consume alcohol, having a glass of carrot juice will help to reduce the temptation.

For an alcoholic, avoiding alcohol could be a very difficult task. The withdrawal symptoms of alcoholism may be very severe. So it is not advisable for a hardcore alcohol to stop drinking entirely. Instead, the alcohol should be carefully phased out.

The following steps can be taken to reduce alcohol intake

1.	The person must be made to take interest in constructive hobbies and sports.

2.	Love and affection from family members and friends could strengthen the resolve of the person to give up alcoholism.

3.	Attending meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous will show the alcoholic how people have managed to kick their boozing habits. This will create a very positive outlook in the alcoholic.

4.	Instead of alcohol, other drinks with less alcohol in them can be used, such as wine and cocktails. Eventually even these can be stopped.

Almost every day we encounter stressors that either make us or break us. And when do break us, it’s not really nice. Nobody wants to be down and stressed, and nobody wants to hear glasses being smashed everywhere. But stress occurs, and it’s up to us how to respond to it. Sounds like you’ve read something like this before? Well read on because you need a reminder. Here
are some of the things you can do to fight that unwanted stress.

1. Exercise. Walking not only makes you fit, it could also relax your tense muscles, and gives you time to think through more clearly. Sometimes the solution to that one problem you’ve been dying to solve will come out when you least expect it. So take a brisk walk outside. Other recommended forms of physical activities are tai chi and yoga. They both soothe the muscles,
and make you have that quiet time with yourself.

2. Meditation. It greatly relaxes the mind by directing your attention onto an
object. Health benefits are reported from meditating everyday, like lowered blood pressure and increased blood flow. I’m not the best person to give you an advice about the best way to meditate, but if you want to give it a try, then pick a book for beginners and practice meditating everyday, before you see the results.

3. Breathing. Taking long deep breaths and directing all your attention to each breath you take in a form of relaxation. Do it every day, especially when stressors attack you.

4. Vitamin C. Vitamin C is a known stress buster. Our adrenal glands release cortisol that triggers the “flight or fight” response to stress, allowing us to spring into action when we sense danger. But frequent exposure to situations that cause high levels of stress hormones impairs one’s learning and memory, making us more susceptible to depression.

In one German study, 120 people were subjected to a public speaking task with math problems. Half of them were given 1,000 mg of Vitamin C while the other half weren’t. Those who got the vitamin reported being less stressed.

In another study, Vitamin C fed to rats undergoing stress had decreased their

cortisol levels and prevented then from showing signs of physical and emotional stress, like weight gain.

Take your daily doses of Vitamin C found in fruits and vegetables, and is also
available in supplement form.

5. Herbal teas. If you want to be relaxed, there is a way for you to achieve that without taking medications. There are some herbs that are known to relax the mind. Make a tea out of Chamomile, hops and lemon balm. They are available in your health stores.

Not every stressful situation is bad. A public speaking or work presentation molds us into better people, and makes us realize that we are capable of doing and overcoming big hurdles. How we respond to the world around us is in our hands, and the less we react negatively, the less stress there is, making us happier and more peaceful. Take care!

What are Lucid Dreams?

Lucid dreaming means dreaming while you know that you are dreaming, and when you know you are dreaming within a dream you can also alter the dream course, with practice you can also develop full control over your dreams. You will be able to create anything the mind can imagine, change the environment even change your own appearance, have a chat with Abraham Lincoln or fly to the Grand Canyon.

The earliest recorded lucid dreams date back to the fifth century, the record came from a written letter by St. Augustine in 415 A.D. Another well-known recorded example of lucid dreaming came from eight century Tibetan Buddhists in the Tibetan Book of the Dead. The Buddhists wrote of a form of yoga designed to maintain full waking consciousness while in the dream state. This ancient documentation of dreams is said to be more advanced than the knowledge we posses today.

People have been having lucid dreams for as long as the human mind has been dreaming. The first known use of the actual term “lucid dreaming” was by Frederik van Eeden in his work “A Study of Dreams” which was published in the Proceedings of the Society for Psychical Research in 1913. (Van Eeden also wrote the novel The Bride of Dreams). Since then the term has become part of our mainstream.

Steps to Lucid Dreaming

“I don’t dream”, have you ever heard someone say this? Or have you even said this yourself? It is not a true statement, everybody dreams nightly, but some people do not remember their dreams. The first step in learning to have lucid dreams, like in my Intuition article, is have the desire to want to remember your dreams. Now before going to bed, have a clear mind, tell yourself that “I will remember my dream when I wake up”. This is a proven and effective way to help dream recall. Having a cluttered mind or worries can distract you from remembering your dream in the morning.
Have a regular sleep schedule, try and get a routine going with a consistent bedtime and wake up time, this will also aid you in your dream recollection. Avoid alcohol consumption or taking medication before going to bed. These things may hinder you from remembering your dreams. Diet also plays a big part in dream recall, fatty foods or just eating right before you go to bed will task your body with digesting food instead of getting the rest your body needs and will divert your bodily resources from the brain.
The most important step in recalling your dreams is to keep a dream journal. Keep a pencil and a notebook or tape recorder next to your bed so that it will be within reach as soon as you wake up. You want to make the task of recording your dreams as easy as possible. Having a small lamp by your bed will help if you wake up from a dream in the middle of the night and need to record it.
Do not get out of bed immediately when you wake up, lay there in your bed keeping your eyes closed and move as little as possible. Wake up slowly and stay relaxed, hold on to your feelings you have and let your mind wander to the images of what you have just dreamed, write down as many details as possible about your dream, do not judge the content, just record it, so later you can go back and evaluate it when you are more aware. Talking to people about your dreams to friends or participating in some on-line forums will also help dream recall.

How to Have a Lucid Dream

Once you get your dream journal going and are able to recall at least two dreams a night then you can start the steps to having a lucid dream. There are many ways to key yourself to the fact that you are dreaming but I will discuss a couple of the easiest for beginners. First there is Reality Testing (RT). How reality testing is done, is you ask yourself “Am I dreaming?” Finding that out in a dream is not always the easiest thing to do, but is usually quite obvious if you are dreaming or not. If you find yourself in an unfamiliar place, or doing something or seeing something that will not likely happen in reality, you will know that you are dreaming. Now if you are in your bed or in your own house, then you can try looking at something like a clock or reading a book or something, look away, then look back and see if the time is the same or the words you read are the same. Try changing the color of something just by thinking about it. Ask yourself this question “Am I dreaming?” several times during the day, then you will be more apt to ask yourself this in a dream.
The second way to realize that you are dreaming in a dream is to recognize a Dreamsign. When your recognize this dreamsign you will realize that you are dreaming. (ie. A pink elephant, meeting deceased people, or magically flying.) By keeping a dream journal and going back and finding things that are common in your dreams, you can choose a dreamsign that is unique to you. So when you see your dreamsign you will realize your experience as a dream, and can then further the experiments or work you would like to do in your dream.

Upon becoming Lucid

The biggest problem upon becoming lucid for newbies is that once they realize they are dreaming, they get so excited that it wakes them from their dream. Actually experienced lucid dreamers can have this problem also. There are different ways to extend your dreams, if your dream shows signs of ending some people have claimed success by spinning to help the dream come back, in other words making their dream self start to spin like an ice skater, and remind yourself the next scene will be a dream, to ensure you are still dreaming do a RT. Sometimes just running, or jumping can prolong your dream. Once you become proficient in achieving a Lucid Dream state, and are able to maintain this state to some degree, the next step will be controlling your dreams.

Controlling your Dream

Now the fun part! Once you are lucid dreaming the world is yours, anything you can imagine can happen in your dream. Have you ever wanted to be a superhero? Be able to turn invisible, to live as a millionaire, to sail around the world. The thing that I personally have had experience with is flying in my dream, the first time you accomplish flight in your dream you will have the most amazing sense of freedom that you have ever felt. Just think about it, if you could fly like a bird, the wind in your hair, the freedom to go anywhere, well you get the picture. People have used the experiences in their lucid dreams to improve their waking lives also, for instance, playing the piano better, improving at ice skating, or business success, some people even claim to have religious experiences.
Science has only just begun to examine the process of lucid dreaming. Some researchers view it as an evolutionary development of mankind and our consciousness expanding. Whether we are evolving or have always had this ability, we certainly are not taking advantage of all it has to offer. If we could become more disciplined with our dream work we would have many more options in which to learn and grow

One visit to the Mt. Shasta area in California will convince you that it is truly a vacation destination that will appeal to almost anyone, from golfers to skiers, and yes, to those seeking a more spiritual path.

Mt. Shasta is home to, well… Mt. Shasta, a 14,179-foot volcano, the second-highest peak in the Cascade Range. Yeah, it’s big. And beautiful. And, some claim, home to a vortex which attracts “New Age” types. A drive down Mt. Shasta Blvd. in Mt. Shasta City reveals a vast array of spiritual shops and assorted healers. You can buy singing bowls and tuning forks, divination tools, yoga supplies, vibrational sprays and magical jewelry. You find can all types of spiritual healers, such as those offering psychic hypnotherapy, reflexology, Reiki and energy work, vibrational healing and massage. If you’re into mineral baths, you can drive a few minutes north of Mt. Shasta City to Weed, where you’ll find therapeutic mineral baths at Stewart Mineral Springs (530-938-2222).

Those of you wishing to take vortex tours are definitely in luck, as there are numerous guided tours to choose from, including Shasta Vortex Adventures, which offers Mt. Shasta Guided Tours all year round. You can choose from guided hikes, healing earth journeys, bus tours and winter outings, such as snowshoe, cross country or telemark ski outings. Call them at 530-926-4326 for more information.

For those seeking outdoor activities and adventure, Mt. Shasta does not disappoint, no matter what season in which you’re visiting. During the warmer months you can hike or visit the many lakes which dot the area, including, of course, Lake Shasta, 10 miles north of Redding, the second largest lake in California, after Lake Tahoe. Shasta Lake is a very popular destination for boating, water-skiing, camping, and fishing. They also claim to be the houseboating and wakeboarding Capital of the World. Lake Shasta is also home to the Lake Shasta Caverns, which is open all year round. In order to view the underground caverns, visitors are taken on a 15-minute catamaran cruise across Lake Shasta, where they then board a bus which carries them up a mountainside, more than 800 feet above the lake, where the caves are accessible. All this for only $20; $12 for those 3 to 15. Call 1-800-795-CAVE for more information.

If the size of Lake Shasta is too overwhelming for you, as it was for me during one visit, you might want to visit a smaller lake near Mt. Shasta City, Lake Siskiyou, a 430 acre recreational and sailing lake, which offers some of the best bass and trout fishing in Northern California. You can purchase a cheap day pass and swim, picnic or rent pedal boats, or you can rent RV or camping space, or a cabin at Lake Siskiyou Resort and Camp (1-888-926-2618). The resort is open April 1st – October 31st and is very family friendly, with a great swimming area, sandy beach, and nightly movies in an outdoor amphitheater. The lake is actually closer to Mt. Shasta than Lake Shasta, and you can swim with the beautiful snow-covered mountain looming in the backdrop.

Close to Lake Siskiyou you’ll find Mount Shasta Resort, home to a championship golf course, as well as luxurious cabins and a day spa.

Skiers will delight in skiing Mt. Shasta at the Mt. Shasta Ski Park, where you’ll find 31 trails on 425 acres of skiable terrain. Night skiing is also provided on 14 trails and 3 lifts. The terrain level of difficulty is 20% beginner, 55% intermediate, and 25% advanced. There is also a cross country ski and snowshoe center for those wishing something other than downhill skiing. And for beginners, the ski park offers ski, snowboarding and telemark lessons.

Whether you’re looking for a place to get pampered, a place to enjoy the outdoors, or a place to explore the metaphysical, Mt. Shasta does truly have it all.

So you’ve seen the commercials, heard about it from your friends or colleagues, but you want to know what P90X REALLY is about. Not just “Oh man…it’s EXTREME!” Pull up a chair and I’ll give you an in depth look at the workout program that WILL change your life.

Let’s get right down to it and start with the workouts. Have you ever bought a workout video that was a half hour or forty-five minutes of a more talk than working out? Then the workout you do get is for beginners, or is better suited for your 12 year old? Yea, me too, but P90X is not it. First of all, they give you a full DVD on how to get the most of the workouts. The trainer, Tony Horton, gets serious, and gives you serious motivation to get the change in your body you are looking for. Then, they give you a whopping TWELVE DVDs. That’s twelve hour-long workouts! These guys are nuts! Not only are they twelve workouts, but also if you are not in shape like a professional athlete, you WILL NOT be able to finish the workouts. I’m serious, and so are the workouts. Their strength workouts are based on circuit type training. The strength workout DVDs are: chest and back; shoulders, triceps, bicep; back and legs; chest, shoulder, triceps; back and biceps and finally the “Ab Ripper X”, as they like to call it. Each one starts with a warm up and stretch, and each one has a cool down period…so you are completely done in 1 hour.

Now, I want to tell you about the chest and back a bit more. Basically, you rotate a chest exercise, then a back exercise. It starts out with pushups, then pull-ups. You will rotate regular grip, then wide grip then narrow grip and finally reverse grip (pull-ups). Tony then has you doing some decline and incline pushups, bent over rows, back flys and some crazy military push ups that the Navy SEALS have a hard time doing. There are of course a couple other exercises that I didn’t mention, but they are all variations of the above. So, with about 15 seconds rest in between each exercise, you finish the first round and you are SPENT! Then he says….”This is where most programs are finished….but not us! We’re not done!” And you look at the TV screen like..”Are you kidding me right now..I can’t even lift my arms over my head…..and you want me to get back on the pull up bar”??? Yea…that’s right…get back up there. But, don’t worry, about half way through the 90 days….you’re yelling back at the TV screen going…….bring it harder old man!!! (Oh yea..Tony is the most ripped 48 year old guy you have EVER seen….EVER!)

So, that about covers one DVD. The rest are more of the same torture (at first, then you realize you are a friggin’ animal, and begin to love that stuff). But wait, I’m not done! There are cardio workouts! Plyometrics, Yoga, Cardio X, and Core Synergistics. All of which will have you scraping the floor with your tongue if you are not already a marathon runner. Oh yea….I know someone who IS a marathon runner, and he STILL had trouble with these babies when he first started! Yea, these workouts are serious, so you should be too if you want to tackle them and get in the best shape of your life! Did I mention they give you a calendar and a workbook to track your progress and a 40-page guide to all of the workouts in addition to the DVDs? Yea…they do.

Let’s talk about the P90X nutrition plan now. So unless you are a professional athlete (actually….professional athletes can benefit from this nutrition guide too) you need this nutrition guide. It’s really like getting a masters degree in how our bodies work. After you read the P90X nutrition guide, you will want to sue someone every time you see the crap on TV and in the news about how to lose weight. Everyone is feeding us misinformation!! It’s crazy that the owners of these companies are not sent to jail!!! Because it’s a crime!! The P90X nutrition guide shows you IN DETAIL how EXACTLY to burn YOUR fat, and build YOUR muscle, not someone else’s fat and muscle. They take you step by step, calculate your energy requirements for rest, for exercise, for everything, then give you a solid number to hang your hat on, so you know every single day, that you are either losing fat, or not. In addition, they give you meal plans, down to the last calorie, carbohydrate and protein, so that you know EXACTLY what is going on in your body. No more guessing if you are losing weight because the scale might be wrong. The hell with the scale! You don’t need it! It’s throwing you off! Calculate your weight loss!! Then, in one month, look at it in your pictures….you will be astonished! In addition, P90X puts you on three different phases of your nutrition plan: a fat burning phase, a strength phase and an endurance phase. You can watch you body change each week in the mirror….it is totally crazy!!! They even give you an entire 90 days worth of meal recipes. If you don’t like those, they have a “Portion Plan”, so you can chose your own foods and still follow the plan. Of course, the online website has tons more recipes from other people that went through P90X who have submitted so others can benefit. This is the most complete, real, and healthy way to get super-fit that you will find anywhere…..I can guarantee that!!!

I am three weeks post partum and really need to start exercising as a way to help my own body image issues. I have a history of eating disorders and am feeling quite down on myself image wise. I do not want to do anything extra strenuous and risk causing harm to myself, but I do need to start some type of exercise regimen to get myself geared up for the heavy stuff after I have my doctors ok.

I have a beginners yoga DVD and am planning on starting a nightly walking routine with my dog. I have three weeks till my checkup. After that its back to the gym for Pilates, aerobics and weight training.

Do you have any suggestions for light exercise routines that will help me get back into the groove of working out?

If you feel up to it – go for it. Just listen to your body. If your bleeding starts back or gets heavier – STOP.

There are three main components to keep in mind when you’re building your Portable Empire:

     1. Building your list

     2. Building your relationship with your list

     3. Making products and selling them to your list, and through Joint-Venture and affiliate arrangements, to the universe.

Let’s talk about choosing your niche. This is the playground where you’re going to play- so keep it interesting and fun.

According to the Mirriam-Webster dictionary, niche means:

2 a : a place, employment, status, or activity for which a person or thing is best fitted

b : a habitat supplying the factors necessary for the existence of an organism or species

c : the ecological role of an organism in a community especially in regard to food consumption

d : a specialized market

When we talk about our “niche” in internet marketing, we’re referring to “d: a specialized market,” although the other definitions are relevant.

It’s important to target all of your efforts to one specific, specialized market. To develop a large, loyal list of subscribers, you need to offer a solution to a problem that is shared by a large group of people.

Over time, one of your most valuable possessions will be your list of people who are not only interested in the solution to their problem, but will also pay you for solutions.

If you choose your niche wisely, it will be deep enough to include a lot of related problems. For example, my niche is education, specifically in the area of internet marketing for beginners.

That’s a big playground. I can talk about the mindset of success, the inner game of marketing, how to create a PDF file, video editing, and hundreds of other related topics. I can provide the information as an e-book, an audio download, a CD, a streaming video, or a DVD.

You might want to jot this down: “Every problem is a product.”

As my customer solves one problem- hopefully with a solution they buy from me- that leads them to the next problem. My job is to make sure they know about the problem, and make it easy for them to buy the solution from me. At that point, the client will weigh how important the problem is to them, how long it would take them to solve it on their own, and, hopefully, purchase the solution.

Over time, I’ve created a lot of solutions. As I solve each problem for myself, I turn that solution into a product.

To the people who are behind us on the learning curve, we’re the experts.

Over time, I’ve left a trail of solutions, and gathered a list of people who are on the same journey I’m on. This is how you create multiple streams of passive income.

As you read the instructions below for choosing a niche, keep that in mind. Be sure to pick a niche that has a long learning curve, with lots of fun problems.

Let’s take this to the real world.

One of the best tools for communicating with your subscribers is a blog (web/log). I advertise mine as “unedited and uncensored,” and do my best to keep it real and relevant, with tongue planted firmly in cheek.

Here’s an excerpt from my blog (www.patobryan.com/blog.htm):

Recently, one of my mentoring clients asked:

Could you please explain how you coach people to success? I have been down this road before trying to come up with a product to solve a problem. It didn’t come up with anything. ! I don’t have a clue in coming up with a product……Do you have a specific process to come up with profitable ideas??? I hope so, I need the process you go thru.

I responded:

I suspect that he’s not the only one asking this question. As a matter of fact, my domestic partner Betsy and I were just talking about this over dinner. She’s struggling with the same problem.

I think we can sort this out.

First, you need to chunk the question down and simplify it. Right now, the problem I’d like to solve is breast cancer- a very dear friend is battling this demon, and I’ve lost several loved ones to it. Another problem I’d like solved is political- I’m afraid that Ike was right when he warned us to beware the military-industrial complex. Then there’s hunger, homelessness, global warming, and the fact that there’s not a real first-class Mexican Food restaurant in Wimberley, Texas.

Realistically, I’m not an oncologist, a political scientist, social scientist, or first-class Mexican Food chef. We need to find problems we can actually solve, and hopefully in a niche that we can stay interested in.

To me, that’s the real danger- finding a niche that’s profitable but boring. I think it’s important to find a niche you’re passionate about.

For example, I’m passionate about self-actualization, and I don’t think that’s something you can achieve working 40 hours a week at a job you’re not passionate about. I think humans were created in God’s image, and she didn’t intend for us to spend our brief time on this spinning globe in mind-numbing tedium. I’m convinced that we’re living in an infinite universe, and that there are enough resources for everyone. My solution is the “Portable Empire” concept, which allows you to travel, think, meditate, and grow to your full potential without having to punch a clock.

So, when I’m looking for a problem to solve, I limit my search to the niche of “Your Portable Empire.”

That simplifies the problem, and also simplifies finding the solution. I promote seminars, videos, audios and e-books that teach people to create multiple streams of passive income.

A lot of my products start out as conversations with my mentoring clients.

So, step one is to identify your niche.

How do you do that? You need to find a subject that you’re a) passionate about, b) knowledgeable in, and c) is broad enough to have a large customer base.

In my case, I’m passionate about freedom- and you need financial freedom to acquire intellectual freedom and freedom of mobility. I’m knowledgeable about the subject- I make a healthy six-figure income doing what I teach. And finally, there are more than enough people interested in the subject to make it profitable for me.

One way to work your way through the niche-finding problem is to take a piece of paper and draw a line down the middle. On one side, write down all the subjects you’re knowledgeable about. An example could be:

Raising happy children

Maintaining automobiles

Losing Weight

Yoga

Golf

Healthy relationships

Feng Shui

Getting a good deal on antiques

Graphic design

Cleaning houses

Cooking

Art (painting, drawing, collecting, etc.)

Music (playing an instrument, promoting a band, making a recording)

Poker

Chess

Stock market investing

Take some time with this- you know a lot more than you think you do.

Then, in the second column, make a similar list of things you’re passionate about. PASSIONATE! Not just interested.

Then, see what turns up in both columns. On another sheet of paper, make another list of just the things that are in both columns, with the most fascinating (to you) subject first, the next most fascinating subject second, etc.

Now, starting with the most interesting subject, do a Google search to see who else is marketing to your future customers.

If you turn up a blank, or just a few results, go to the next one. Just because you’re passionate about under-water stamp collecting doesn’t mean it’s a good business model. Call that a hobby and move on.

If your Google search turns up page after page of commercial sites- congratulations! You’ve just identified your future Joint-Venture partners. You’ve found your niche.

Now, let’s say you’re the kind of guy who plays 18 holes of golf every morning, and another 18 in the evening. You’ve got zirconium encrusted drivers and a putter that’s been blessed by three popes. Your golf cart has a hemi. Your wife would like you to kindly shut up about golf, because that’s all you ever talk about.

You’re a golf nut.

Now, let’s also postulate that you’ve spent a few years reading every book you can get your hands on about golf, studied with Tiger Woods, and the local golf pro asks you for advice.

You’re a golf expert.

You do a Google search on “golf” and discover that there are thousands of people marketing to golfers.

You’re in luck.

Your niche is golf.

Now, to monetize your niche, you need to find out what pressing problems golfers are having and provide them with a solution. You want to identify a problem that really, really hurts them. I live on a golf course, but the last golf course I played on had a windmill, and I was still in Junior High School at the time, so I’m going to wing it here…

Do they slice? Do they get tired on hole 17? Hole 3? Is their stance too wide? Are their pants too tight? Have they lost their balls?

How do you find out what THE pressing problem is for golfers today?

Back to Google.

Do a search on “golf forum.”

There should be plenty. Join them. Lurk. Read the posts.

I do this with “newbie” internet forums. It’s a gold mine. Somebody will post a question, several other people will join the conversation, mentioning that they’ve had the same problem. Somebody will post a wrong answer.

Gold mine. Home run. Hole in one.

So, hang out in the forums and identify the one biggest problem that golfers have. Obviously, this will work in any niche.

Sell them the solution.

Initially, you’ll probably frame your solution as an e-book. They’re free to make, free to deliver, and you can put them on clickbank (www.clickbank.com)- and clickbank will handle the accounting, keep up with affiliate sales, send your affiliates their money, and send you your money every two weeks.

You may discover an olde Scottish tome that is in the public domain that is just chock full of golfing wisdom. Turn that sucker into a PDF and sell it.

Remember, we’re selling information. You can also package the information as an audio MP3, which you can also put on clickbank.

Lately, I’ve been having a lot of fun with video. The internet is just too slow to deliver professional video online. That will change. About half the country, and a lot of the rest of the world, is still using dial-up, which is way too slow for video. That will change, too, but we’re in a hurry, so, you’ll have to deliver DVDs. This introduces a level of complexity to your Portable Empire that you may want to avoid for now.

(www.patobryan.com/blog.htm – 07/08/06 Selling the solution- Every Problem is a Product)

Imagine that your niche is golf. That’s a great niche, because it’s got a lot of very interesting problems.

You could create an “Introduction to Golfing.” Then, an e-book on how to choose the right golf clubs. Follow that up with “27 Things To Ask Your Golf Pro.” “Reports From the World’s Best Golf Courses,” would be my next choice- and would lead to a nice tax-deductible vacation.

Over time, you’ll establish relationships with a large group of people who rely on you to provide solutions to their golfing problems- and pay you for those solutions.

Get the picture?
